Accessibility Statement

In order to maximise the usability and accessibility of the HSELanD we have striven to comply with the Priority 1 and 2 checkpoints as advised by the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) web accessibility initiative WAI.

The W3C is committed to promoting the creation of websites with “a high degree of usability for people with disabilities”. Their WAI Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 provide a list of checkpoints to ensure that website designers produce sites with maximum accessibility.

An independent accessibility audit was carried out by Eoin Campbell of XML Workshop. This audit focused on all aspects of the HSELanD that are covered by the WAI.

The HSELanD also contains some courses which, whilst outside the scope of the WAI, have their own built in accessibility features. These include the ability to: change background and text colours, change the text size, turn audio on or off, turn video on or off, show or hide Tool Tips and use a range of keyboard shortcuts.
