The Connect Mentor Network

There are many forms of development and support for professional practitioners/specialists/service managers or clinical leaders. Coaching is one specific approach. The International Coach Federation defines coaching as

‘Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.’

The results from the coaching are determined by the client’s intentions, choices and actions, which are supported by the coach’s efforts and application of the coaching process.

The CAWT Connect Coaching Network offers a 1:1 time-limited coaching service offered by internal, trained coaches to managers, clinicians and staff.

The underpinning philosophy of the coaching service is the belief in individual potential. The aim is to increase the individual’s capability to use his/her resources to solve the problems and challenges blocking progress and development, and to create desired outcomes.

‘The Connect Mentor Network’ is:

  • an innovative and strategic approach to building capacity and performance within the CAWT partner organisations and community/voluntary stakeholders,
  • consists of 25 senior health and social care staff who have received specific development as a mentor,
  • designed to support service leaders to transform service provision across the CAWT partner organisations.

Anticipated benefits to those who receive mentoring (i.e. mentees) include:

  1. Development of an understanding of organisational dynamics, strategic influencing, systemic change, culture change, corporate awareness, health and social care context, commissioning and policy development.
  2. Increased leadership potential.
  3. Support, confidence building, thinking space, encouragement.
  4. Access to additional source of guidance and support beyond line management.
